Using Blog Technology To Build an Inexpensive and Easily Updatable Online Media Room

We hear it all the time,

"I really want an online media room, but my boss doesn't think it's a wise use of money, so he won't give me the [programmer's time, budget, etc.] to get it done."

Blogs can solve that problem!

And better yet, since a blog can be used to instantly and virtually effortlessly update a web site, blogs can turn your Online Media Room into a powerful, up-to-date resource that can generate a ton of publicity for your company.

Key to understanding this, is to know that most blogging programs give you the capability to both categorize entries and to have multiple physical blogs on the same site.

So, let's just imagine that you want to create an online media room. Talk your boss into 1. Buying a blogging program for $150, then 2. Giving you 45 minutes of time from your web programmer to install the program (that's if he's really slow!) and to provide a link into it from the rest of the site once you're done.

Once the setup's done, you jump in and create multiple blogs, one each for

- Media Releases

- Bios of key company officers

- Downloadable file photos

- Key media contacts within your company

- Recent stories run about your company in the media

- Frequently asked media questions

- Fact sheets about your products, plants, services, etc.

- Sample suggested interview questions

- Recommended expert sources for additional industry information

- Etc.

Then go into your pre-existing materials, and start copying and pasting into your new setup, and viola - you've got yourself an online media room, tomorrow!
