When You Get It, Flaunt It!
Food is food, right?
Some would say that restaurants are the hardest business to keep alive, primarily because it's incredibly difficult to make your eatery be different than everyone else's.
That doesn't seem to be a problem for one Racine Wisconsin restaurant - Chubbies.
Chubbies has one thing that makes it very different than everyone else - they give huge servings.
For example, if you want a hamburger, instead of a quarter pounder, you get a Chubbies Burger - a massive pound of beef served up on a roll that's just under the size of a typical dinner plate.
Or, if you want a meatball bomber, you'd better be hungry, because it'll be about four times larger than the one you'll find at a typical eatery.
Not that hungry? Order a Chubbies Junior, and only get a half pound of meat...
Want fries with that? Plan on getting a plate with four times the fries that Mickey Dees will hand you.
Not a bad positioning for a restaurant in the state rumored to have the highest average weight in the nation.

Tie-Ins To News Stories: It Takes Initiative!
Americans have taken two major hits to their pocketbooks in the last month or so.
First, gasoline prices have hit all-time highs.
Second, milk has gone up more than 50 cents per gallon.
Have either of these affected your bottom line? Yes?
Then tell the media about it!
For Benny DeRango, owner of one of Racine's favorite pizza joints, the milk price increase have deeply affected his business. Mozzarella cheese is up $1 per pound. No big deal, right?
Except that he buys 700 pounds of mozzarella per week. That's $700 profit gone, per week.
On top of that, he pays 25% more for every pound of American Cheese and 20% more for every gallon of milk.
Not counting the costs to pay for the gas in his delivery vehicles...
So he's chosen to raise his prices.
But more importantly for us as PR people (not suggesting that the price of pizza, our industry's official source of nourishment, doesn't affect us), Benny turned this situation into a major feature story in our local newspaper.

How To Seduce The Media
You've heard of teasing the media with a clever subject line on an email pitch, or an enticing story idea.
Joan Stewart and publicity expert Paul Hartunian suggest you not only tease, but seduce them.
Here's Paul does it. He wrote the book "How to Find the Love of Your Life in 90 Days or Less." The news release he wrote included a short list of bullet points about what's in the book. One bullet point read, "The worst place to go on a first date--go here and you'll probably never get a second date."
So what do you think the reporter is saying to himself while he's reading the news release?

What's That Again? Carding
From a recent police report:
"An 18-year-old man was charged with robbing a 7-11. When he walked in, pulled a gun and demanded money, the employee didn't panic. She calmly said, 'I don't think you're old enough to be robbing us. Don't you have to be at least 16?' The thief then proceeded to pull out his wallet and showed the clerk his driver's license. The clerk quickly memorized the information..."
Some people just don't get it...

Business Blogging - I Blew It Big Time
Have you ever started out writing something, only to find out that the project took on a life of its own during the writing process?
That's what happened with our new training manual, "Blogging For Business."
I thought that I could cover this in a 30 page document, providing the basics of how to write a blog that generated traffic, publicity and bottom line results for your business.
But somewhere in the middle, this product took over the process, turning itself from a beginner's starter kit into a complete guide to writing and promoting your blog.

Farewell To Ryan
It is with a combination of regret and pride that we announce that one of our most-valued employees, Ryan, will be leaving us tomorrow to enter the Military.
Those of you who have met Ryan in person, via email, or on the phone know that he's a great guy, efficient, caring, and incredibly bright.
Those of you who have read this publication for awhile have seen Ryan's wit and insight a number of times over the last two years. His article which probably generated the most comment was Lions and Tigers and Romans Oh My!
Ryan is pursuing his dream to serve other people by becoming a nurse for the Army.
Stay safe buddy, we'll all miss you.

Lions and Tigers and Romans Oh My!
Did you ever wonder how famous people in history achieved their fame without the use of television or radio? I sometimes do too. In fact, I was watching the Discovery channel last night, and I saw an advertisement that was touting the great achievements of a man who was a thorn in the side of the Romans for quite some time . . . Spartacus! Who was this man who ticked off the Romans so
much, that he inspired a movie, and documentary?
It is speculated that Spartacus was a soldier for the Romans. But, he deserted, fled, was captured, sold as a slave, and was trained as a gladiator. He was quite successful at spilling blood all over the coliseum floor. After getting fed up with the entertainment industry, he turned to a job where he could kick some butt and make a difference - a vigilante! He gathered together a bunch of other guys, piled into a four-hoof drive chariot and headed for the hills.

Blogging For Business
Here's a test to see how connected you are to what's happening on the web.
Ever hear of a blog?
Do you have one?
If you're 25 or younger, you almost certainly do.
But if you're older, it's likely you have heard the word, but really don't know what this blogging stuff is all about.
Here's a few facts you may find interesting.

Using Blog Technology To Build an Inexpensive and Easily Updatable Online Media Room
We hear it all the time,
"I really want an online media room, but my boss doesn't think it's a wise use of money, so he won't give me the [programmer's time, budget, etc.] to get it done."
Blogs can solve that problem!
And better yet, since a blog can be used to instantly and virtually effortlessly update a web site, blogs can turn your Online Media Room into a powerful, up-to-date resource that can generate a ton of publicity for your company.
